These paintings are framed on a grid of incised lines or a foundation of shapes that I can build upon. I paint and scumble and scratch the surface and then sand it all back leaving trace remnants of the work done before. Over the top I work again playing off the marks until the painting is realized. When I paint I’m looking for movement through space, references to time and dimension, and relationships between elements. Color plays a structural role in my paintings and mark-making offers subtle discoveries upon close viewing.
With this new work I continue my interest in digging down into the underlying features that define the unfolding processes of life. Referencing microbiology, genetics, and quantum physics I explore notions of time and space, symbiotic relationships that define organic processes, and changing states and connections that point to a malleable and evolving system. I see a parallel in the micro and macro universe that drives our human interactions and social systems.
